Frigo Vert Scattered Workshop

In November 2023, Scattered hosted its first all-ages community workshop at Frigo Vert in Montreal. It was an exciting step — bringing our work out of schools and into the wider community.

The evening session ran for 2 hours. It was open to everyone. No experience needed. No expectations. Just a welcoming space to explore mindfulness and creative writing together.

We started with a warm welcome, some snacks, and a simple introduction to who Scattered is and what we do. It gave people a chance to settle in, look around, and feel comfortable before anything began.

Then we introduced the Headspace Method — guiding participants through several rounds of meditation and automatic writing. We built it up slowly and intentionally. Shorter meditations first. Gentle prompts. Then gradually deeper and longer as the evening progressed. This gave everyone the time they needed to ease in at their own pace.

As the rounds continued, something shifted in the room. The energy became quieter, more focused, more alive. Participants described feeling a sense of release and clarity — like writing had given them a way to finally put words to things they had been carrying around.

The workshop closed with a 20-minute cool-down and group debrief. People shared what came up for them. What surprised them. What they were taking home.

The feedback was powerful. Many described the evening as meaningful and transformative — words we don’t take lightly.

This workshop showed us that our approach works beyond the classroom. It works in the community. And it set the tone for everything that came after.
